He’s one of the most recognizable mascots here in the Red River Valley.
The F–M Redhawks Baseball mascot, Hawkeye is the latest winner in our hometown favorite’s poll.
He’s a bird with strength, agility, and attitude.
The Fargo–Moorhead Redhawks mascot Hawkeye hatched 15 years ago and since then, he’s struck a chord with fans.
“He just does a lot of stuff to get fans going,” said Whitney Lee of Fargo.
“He’s a cool dude,” said Madie Wuebker of Fargo.
“Whatever games I do go to, he always like, gets people like rowdy,” said Jenna Lang of Fargo.
Fans and stadium leaders say Hawkeye is known for his quirky personality and dance moves.
They also say the bird always tries to make guests feel at home.
“He’s very popular. I mean, his popularity’s grown immensely since I’ve been here, this is my eight summer here,” said Promotions & Merchandise Director Karl Hoium.
With the season ending just this week, Hawkeye’s on vacation so he wasn’t available for comment.
“One of the reasons Hawkeye has become so popular here in the area is because of his bookworm program. He travels to local schools right here in the valley and gets kids excited about reading.”
“He just tries to use his popularity in an effort to encourage kids to read,” said Hoium.
And Hawkeye’s antics don’t go unnoticed.
“He’s always like, with the fans and like entertaining people,” said Wuebker.
“He runs around and takes pictures with kids and gives autographs,” said Lang.
“I was at every game, yeah and I saw him go above and beyond,” said Lee.
And these are just some of the reasons one of the valley’s favorite mascots is Hawkeye.
