Moorhead Detox Center Hopes To Expand Amid Rise In Drug Use

The Clay County Detox Center is looking to expand to deal with an increase in drug abuse.

The county commission has approved a request to add six more beds to the detox center, bringing it to a total of 16.

Director Troy Amundsen says the need for detox is greater than it’s been in a while.

He says more and more drugs are making their way into the area.

The facility is a medical detox, which can provide medication and care for people under the influence.

“It used to be where alcohol was the prevalent,” Amundsen explains. “Now you see alcohol mixed with cocaine. You see alcohol with meth. You see a lot of different substances that you didn’t in the past.”

The expansion isn’t finalized yet.

A center in Fergus Falls closed last year.
