UPDATE: Man Charged in Wahpeton Stabbing Death & Victim May Have Been Dating Same Woman
UPDATE THURSDAY – A man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a man inside a Wahpeton apartment.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says Adam Awender admits to stabbing Billy Joe Phillips, around midnight Monday, but claims it was self-defense.
Phillips was living in the apartment with a woman that’s believed to have been dating both men.
Awender told investigators he threw the knife in a dumpster and washed his clothes.
WAHPETON, N.D. – Police have arrested a 36–year–old man in a stabbing death in a Wahpeton apartment.
It happened around midnight Monday at an apartment at 815 Center Street South.
Police say emergency crews tried to save the victim, but he died at the scene.
Investigators say a 15–year–old boy related to a woman living in the building was in the apartment when the man was stabbed.
“We developed suspect information at about noon, and beyond pursuing that we established probable cause and found the location of the suspect and we were able to take him into custody without incident about 4:30 Monday afternoon,” Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson said.
The victim’s name has not been released.
The man who was arrested will be identified once he’s formally charged.
