An Affair to Remember: CCRI Celebrates Prom

More than one hundred people with disabilities get the chance to experience the glitz and glamor of prom night, years after they missed out.

The CCRI Prom gave the full prom experience to 150 people in the program.

The local Creative Care for Reaching Independence helps people with disabilities live full lives.

This includes pulling out all the stops for these prom goers.

Fancy dresses, a hair and makeup stylist, and a DJ providing prom night music.

CCRI Executive Director Shannon Bock says, “It’s so much about feeling, being part of something bigger than themselves, so they’re a part of our community, a part of our group as their participating in this, and just a chance to be Prince Charming or Cinderella.”

Organizers say these guests were denied the prom experience when they were young, but they say more and more students with disabilities get to go to their high school prom today.
