Lawmaker Wants Common Core Repealed

Education Leaders Oppose Common Core Bill for Students

Education leaders are opposed to a bill that would require North Dakota to repeal Common Core education standards for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Fargo Republican Rep. Jim Kasper, the prime sponsor of the bill, and other critics say the standards represent a federal takeover of education.

But educators told the House Education Committee that the standards are effective.

Common Core outlines what skills students should learn to be ready for college and careers upon graduation.

North Dakota adopted the standards in 2011.
