Testing for Avian Flu on Clay County Farm

A U-S-D-A Lab in Iowa is determining if the avian flu has hit a family run chicken operation near Hawley.

The Baer Poultry Company first noticed signs of illness in the 300-thousand bird flock on Monday.

The operaton is a large scale commercial egg production facility.

It is now unable to ship any eggs because of the possibility the flock may be infected.

If confirmed, it would be at least the third avian flu outbreak in Northwestern Minnesota.

It’s been detected in poultry flocks in Roseau and Otter Tail Counties.

Nearly 30 farms statewide have had confirmed outbreaks.
