Fargo Police Believe Confession Letter by Shootout Suspect is Authentic

Fargo police believe a letter in which an Iowa man accused of armed robbery admits to shooting first at police is authentic.

Eric Webb of Cedar Rapids was hurt two weeks ago in a shootout with police after allegedly robbing the Howard Johnson hotel.

Webb is charged with robbery and a weapons crime.

The Forum reported this week it had received a letter from Webb saying he robbed the hotel to get money he needed to move his family.

Defense attorney Patrick Rosenquist says that “any letter that may or may not have been sent was done so without my knowledge.”
