Cass County Releases Annual Crime Report
There was a big increase in calls for service and arrests in Cass County last year.
The Sheriff’s annual report shows that deputies responded to more than 5,500 calls for service, an increase of about 750 over the previous year.
Nearly 500 people were arrested, compared to just under 300 arrests the year before. 181 of those arrests were for drunk driving.
Sheriff Laney is also representing the National Sheriffs’ Association to oppose President Obama’s executive order limiting local access to military-styled equipment.
He told a recent gathering that it is quote “not for Washington to tell our sheriffs how to protect and serve their communities.”
Laney says the new rules will do little more than hinder the already challenging work of law enforcement.
