Bison Herd: Prepare to Head to Target Field in 2019

NDSU Football and the Minnesota Twins are teaming up to play a college football game at Target Field

The Bison will open their 20-19 season at the home of the Twins.

When NDSU battles Butler in August of 2019, the Bison and Bulldogs will be the second pair of teams to play a football game at Target Field, joining St. Thomas and St. John’s who will play there next fall.

But Twins President Dave St. Peter says this game has an extra excitement because it means Bison Nation is coming.

St. Peter was at the Fargodome this afternoon announcing the game with NDSU AD Matt Larsen and Bison Football Coach Chris Klieman.

The parties say the conversation began back when Klieman threw out the first pitch before a Twins game in early June and Larsen says from there, it just made sense.

“Given the alumni base we have in Minnesota, and in Minneapolis more particular, and the recruiting base, it really made a lot of sense,” said NDSU Director of Athletics Matt Larsen. “So I emailed Dave that Monday morning and said thanks for the hospitality this weekend, but more importantly, how can we move forward with a football game?”

“There’s very few brands in collegiate sports that are more powerful in terms of fan avidity than NDSU football,” said Twins President Dave St. Peter. “And we’re excited about the opportunity to host that game and believe it will be a huge success.”

St. Peter says he’s not willing to nail down an exact number on attendance, but expects it to be close to 40,000.
