Teen who Murdered West Fargo Woman in 1995 Granted Sentence Review
The life prison sentence given to the man convicted in the 1995 murder of a West Fargo woman will be reviewed next week.
A post-conviction relief hearing is scheduled in Cass County District Court for Barry Garcia.
He was 16 when he was convicted of shooting and killing 50 year-old Cheryl Tendeland while she was riding in a car.
Recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings have suggested that some sentences given to juveniles in the past were too harsh.
State’s Attorney Birch Burdick says Garcia’s lawyer is expected to argue for a more lenient sentence.
