Sen. Heitkamp Talks with President-Elect on DAPL, 45-Q Bill

Senator Heitkamp says the pipeline was a topic of discussion at her meeting with President-elect Trump.

The two talked about the challenges he is likely to inherit including the controversy at Standing Rock.

The Senator also pushed for a consistent energy policy.

She says she explained they must be prepared to respond to concerns about permanent actions, especially if it relates to coal.

“Expressed some concern that we also appreciate that some of this is coming from years of challenges for Native American people,” said Sen. Heitkamp. “I talked a little bit about my work on Native American children and the need to not stop that discussion.”

Heitkamp and Trump also discussed her 45-Q bill, which encourages investment in carbon capture and what that would mean for miners.
