New African Exhibit at the Chahinkapa Zoo

Zoo Goers can see Zebras and the Zoo Vet in the new African Exhibit

WAHPETON, ND — The new African exhibit at the Chahinkapa Zoo offers zoo goers a different experience.

The exhibit that opened in June allows people to see the zebras not only outdoors through a fence, but also inside where they sleep and eat.

Three zebras occupy the exhibit now, but honey badgers are expected to be in there by the end of the season and a rhino in the next few years.

The building also is home to the zoo’s vet center.

“This is different. People get to get a peek in here, they get to see our vet center, they get to see what happens daily,” said Zoo Director, Kathy Diekman. “I think people are really going to enjoy this building.”

The African Exhibit was moved from a different location at the zoo due to a flood levee built by the city.
