LIVE: Veterans Honor Flight Prepares To Take Off

Around 100 Veterans Flying To Washington, D.C. This Weekend

About 100 veterans will get the trip of a lifetime this weekend on the latest Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN.

They’re leaving on Sunday, May 19th for a trip to Washington, D.C.

The veterans will visit war memorials honoring their service, then get a banquet in their honor.

This flight includes 16 World War II veterans, including vets up to 99 years old.

Organizer Lori Ishaug says the trip brings out emotions that many veterans might not share otherwise.

She says the journey helps some of them open up.

KVRR is proud to join the veterans on this honor flight.

Chief Meteorologist Rob Kupec will have coverage from D.C. starting Sunday.

Ishaug is also asking people to come to Hector International Airport at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20th to greet the veterans as they return home.

The honor flights aren’t cheap, and the organization is constantly raising money to pay for two flights each year.
