Fargo Veteran will be honored with military service at National Cemetery

FARGO, ND — A Marine Corps veteran will receive military honors when he is buried four years after he passed away.

Services for Francis Kaufmann will take place next Tuesday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fargo National Cemetery.

Mr. Kaufmann served in the United States Marine Corp from July 1946 to July 1948.

Mr. Kaufmann’s body was unclaimed when he died at the VA Hospital in Fargo on 12/29/2016.

When his apartment was cleared out, the cremated remains of his wife, Eileen Kaufmann, were found.

She died in 2001.

Prior to his death, Mr. Kaufmann requested that his cremated remains be buried in a veteran’s cemetery.

Mr. Kaufmann’s discharge papers were lost in a records warehouse fire.

It has taken this long to find the documentation to proceed with his burial.

No one has been able to locate any next of kin.

He and his wife will be buried together.

The Fargo Memorial Honor Guard will be conducting military rites for hopes to get as many people to honor him at his service to show he is not forgotten.
