MN BCA Identifies Officers in Use of Force Incident in Fargo Last Week

ST. PAUL (KVRR) — Minnesota BCA identifies the law enforcement officers who used force last week while trying to arrest a man in Fargo on numerous warrants.
They say North Dakota BCI agent Scott Voeltz fired his handgun at 29-year-old suspect Tyler Merritt of Fargo.
The bullet went through his jacket but didn’t cause any injuries.
The shot was fired while Merritt was ramming squad cars in his second attempt of the day to flee.
Merritt was driving a pickup pulling a trailer with a stolen snowmobile.
He was located in an alley near Carl Ben Eielson Middle School.
A Cass County Sheriff’s deputy with the Metro Street Crimes Unit deployed his taser.
His identity is being protected since he was working undercover.
Merritt is charged with four felonies and three misdemeanors in the case including fleeing a peace officer and criminal mischief.
Voeltz has 17 years of law enforcement experience.
North Dakota BCI asked the BCA to investigate the incident.
