Watch: Getting the F-M Metro Raptor-Ready

FARGO (KVRR) –  They’re some of the most beautiful and beloved birds in North Dakota and Minnesota.

But the raptors of our region are in trouble, and they need our help.

A  group of volunteers who work to save the lives of injured and sick federally protected raptors here in our region is trying to get the birds a facility for their care here in the metro.

Right now, there’s no place to hold them within a two hundred mile radius.

That means every time someone finds a bald eagle who’s been hurt, a barn owl with a beak problem or an orphaned infant hawk, these volunteers are making a sometimes eight-hour round trip to the Raptor Center in St. Paul.

And these volunteers do it all out of pocket.

They’ve got a building here they want to use, but it needs to be insulated and heated so the birds can survive while they’re waiting for transport.

They’ve set up a GoFundMe, and the proceeds will go not only to refurbishing the building, but also for gas and for food for the birds.

Raptor volunteer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson visited the Morning Show to talk with us about her “raptor-mobile,” about what it’s like to work with these majestic, sometimes dangerous, and always awe-inspiring apex predators in their most fragile state, and about why the work is so meaningful to her.
