Pet Connection: Live: Meet Kiwi
FARGO — Are you ready for a little spot of sunshine in your life?
Kiwi’s the sun conure’s ready to bring it.
As you can see, sun conures are beautiful birds with affectionate, gentle personalities.
CAARE Avian Rescue volunteers aren’t sure whether Kiwi is a boy or a girl, and to determine sex would require a blood draw, so for her profile, we’ll go with the default option of girl.
Kiwi is about five years old and sun conures can expect to live about 35 to 40 years, so anyone who adopts her would have plenty of time with her.
The species isn’t big, as parrots go, and unlike some other pets, Kiwi is really good about telling you what kind of handling she likes and what she doesn’t.
That means you can interact with her and respect her wishes without getting a nasty nip in the process.
Because of all these attributes, sun conures can be great birds for people who don’t have a lot of parrot experience.
Perhaps best of all, Kiwi coming in with CAARE’s Gwen Sailer means the folks at CAARE are finally ready to start adopting birds out again after a rough run with a deadly bird virus, beak and feather disease.
