Pet Connection: Meet Coltie

CASS COUNTY, N.D. — He started life just about as sick as any horse they’ve ever seen, a tiny little thing of only about 3 months old, in a kill pen in Peabody, Kansas.

But after his time at Pride and Joy Rescue just north of the city of Fargo, Coltie has left his frightening past long behind and he’s looking for a furever home.

Robbie Faulkner, co-founder of Pride and Joy, says that at about two years old now, Coltie, who’s already a tall fellow, may still be growing into his full adult size.

In spite of what he’s been through, Coltie is learning to trust human beings again, and learning to be a good companion horse.

Faulkner says he’s especially gentle with the teenage volunteers who come to work with him at the rescue.

He’s fond of treats and very cooperative, even tolerating the attention from the Morning Show crew and the presence of their unfamiliar camera gear.

Coltie’s got a bright future ahead of him as a gentle and good-natured companion animal.
