LIVE: On the Hunt for Connection
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — It’s been almost thirty years of giving mobility-challenged people in the region a chance to get out in the field and feel the thrill of the deer hunt.
And the northern valley nonprofit behind the accessible deer hunt, is looking for more volunteers ahead of the hunt Thursday.
Setup starts Wednesday for the My Options event, which brings in hunters with various disabilities to participate.
Heather Everson’s a regular organizer and says there are a variety of disabilities the hunt can help with.
Some hunters will use specialized wheelchairs.
One hunter is even legally blind and will be able to shoot with the help of sighted volunteers, she says.
Among this year’s hunt are several disabled veterans.
Everson says it gives people not just the pleasure of hunting, but also of forming new friendships.
She joined the Morning Show for a live interview about how it can change people’s relationships and lives, and the rewards of helping those connection form.
