Group of Veterans Meet Every Year at the Same Time

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — For over half a century, a group of veterans have come together on Veterans day to remember what they have fought for and who they have lost.

“A lot of we tell the same old stories that we’ve been telling for years and years and we embellish that a little bit sometimes. At least some people do, myself especially,” said Tom Vacha, a veteran who served in South Korea.

The members of this group not only come together sharing the same stories, but they all come in at exactly the same time every year.

“Back in the day we would usually start at noon or actually at 11:11 on 11/11 and we’d close the bars down. That was back when we were young. Now we’re all home by midafternoon,” said Dave Seiferg, a veteran who served in Vietnam.

The time and date represent the ceasefire agreement signed between Allies and Germany on November 11, 1918, when World War 1 ended. While they are the only known ones to have committed to this time, they appreciate it together.

“This is just a good day of fellowship and comradeship and seeing old friends and just enjoying life. You know rather than waiting for a funeral to say you know he was a good guy, let’s enjoy each other while we can,” said Robert Stein, a veteran who served in South Korea.

Each year the members bring a new light with the stories they share and competitions they have put together. But while they all only get to meet once a year they relish every minute of it.

They have no plans of stopping.

The group tells us they will continue their annual gathering next year on Veterans day.
