LIVE: Cosplay for a Cause
FARGO — Getting dressed this weekend in the metro probably means you’re putting on a parka, gloves, hat, scarf and boots.
But when you get dressed to go out, consider donning your best anime cosplay, and coming out to brighten the life of a little boy with a tough disease to fight.
Jackson Berg is twelve and he’s got a rare form of kidney cancer.
It’s called Primary Renal Rhabdomyosarcoma.
He and his family just found out last year, and he’s been in treatment ever since.
He does chemotherapy, and he needs platelet and plasma therapy.
He’s already had a kidney and part of his lung removed.
And there are fewer than a dozen cases diagnosed in the world.
His mother, Amy Berg, says Jackson told her he is ready to fight the disease, and this weekend’s fundraiser is meant to help him do that.
It’s all anime-themed, and Amy says one of the community’s local anime cosplayers put out the world on social media to get the cosplay community to come out and help raise money.
Amy says her son got into drawing as a little boy after discovering his love of Japanese animation.
He has a whole roster of voice actors and is even branching out now into drawing, Amy says.
Amy and fundraiser organizer Maddie Walock joined the Morning Show for a live interview about what it’s like battling this rare disease and how people can come show their support this weekend.
