Moorhead Police Department Lauds Progress After Introduction of Community Resource Navigator

Megan Lundborg has been in the position for about 7 months, and says the data she's gathered displays a clear difference.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR)  – Police departments around the country, including the Fargo-Moorhead area, have stated that calls for service regarding mental health have been steadily rising over the past few years.

There were many frustrations with having officers take time out of their schedules to respond to these, especially if it was the same person multiple times.

That’s why the city of Moorhead decided to turn to a civilian, with the creation of the Community Resource Navigator position.

Enter Megan Lundborg – an experienced social worker who soon shouldered the responsibility of identifying individuals who made repeated calls for service and making sure they were connected to the mental health resources they required.

The data provided by the police department shows a clear trend of improvement. According to Lundborg, she identified 17 people as “Top Contacts” from June to December of 2024.

Those 17 people have seen their total calls for service drop by 87 percent.

Lundborg says those stats give her hope that she’s making a difference.

“The fact that they’re not feeling the need to call 911 or emergency services because they’re in a crisis, and they have alternatives options for that,” explained Lundborg, “would tell me that that feels successful to them.”
