LIVE: Hungry for the Homeland

FARGO –They’re hungry for their homeland.

And at the latest International Potluck, some Ukranian cooks (and refugees) are sharing its cuisine and culture with their new community.

Organizers for the humanitarian group United for Ukraine say the Hoshko family came here to Mariupol a few months ago under their sponsorship program.

Most of the Ukrainian attendees at the event are here under the same program, which is at risk of being rescinded by the Trump administration, say organizers.

Among all the authentic Ukrainian treats, they’re serving borscht, cabbage rolls, and honey cake — which will also be featured as a new menu item at Nichole’s Fine Pastry in downtown.

The Hoshkos say they are happy to be here in Fargo, especially since their home city was largely destroyed by Russian bombing.

Danylo and Liudmila Hoshko joined the Morning Show to talk about what goes into authentic Ukrainian cuisine and why they’re so excited to be part of their new home community here.
