LIVE: Men’s Mental Health Month
FARGO — June is Men’s Mental Health Month, and there are some special challenges the men in your life are up against when it comes to spotting trouble signs.
On average, experts say men often display more reluctance than women to speak up about the need for mental health care, which means they’re more unlikely to go undiagnosed.
Mental health specialists say it’s important for people to stop perpetuating the idea men have to be stoic and hide their emotions.
Anxiety and depression are also more likely in men to be experienced as anger or irritability, which can make it hard to determine what’s really going on.
Essentia Health’s Dr. Alexandra Kohlhase joined the Morning Show to talk about how you can create a supportive environment for the men in your life and help them open up about how they’re feeling and whether it’s time to talk to a professional.
