Minnesota State Moorhead reports record enrollment growth for first-year students

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State Moorhead is celebrating a record year for enrollment of first year students.

The university is seeing first-year enrollment growth at record levels this academic year.

They are reporting that first-year enrollment has gone from 590 students last year to a projected 774 students joining the school this fall. That’s an over 32 percent increase.

MSUM says they are now the fastest-growing four-year public university in the Minnesota State system, and that they are seeing enrollment growth across the board – including international students and new degree-seeking graduate students.

Minnesota State Moorhead’s vice president for enrollment management and strategic growth says the university’s new Moorhead Scholars program contributed to the record enrollment.

“The Moorhead Scholars program itself has certainly been successful,” Trainer said. “We’ve, historically, enrolled about 40 Moorhead High School students following their graduation year, and this year we’re up to around 135. So that has certainly played a significant roll in the growth.”

Trainer says the university has had to open floors and ready dining halls in preparation for the increase in first-year students.
