Remembering “Madd Frank”, Beloved Local TV Icon
Friends and family say there was far more to the man known on his driver's license as Delray Dvoracek - like a penchant for writing and the ability to speak multiple languages.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – If you turned on KVRR from 1985 to 1995 – chances are you’d get a glimpse into spooky, kooky mind of Madd Frank.
The alter ego of Delray Dvoracek brought his own personal blend of horror and comedy to the airwaves and left a lasting impression on any viewer lucky enough to discover his show.
“He became, like, my first friend in Bemidji. I would watch habitually,” said Mike Bredon, who discovered Madd Frank Presents as a kid and ended up directing a documentary on the show.
“I really ended up being okay with spooky things, and being able to laugh at the scary stuff. It really shaped me.”
Dvoracek passed away on October 11 at the age of 85, and those who knew him say he was so much more than an iconic TV host.
“He was also a very talented writer. He was also a great artist. He was a sculptor. He did wood carving sculptures,” said Tony Tilton, General Manager at Moorhead Community Access.
Still, though, he never got tired of interacting with Madd Frank fans, especially at conventions in the F-M area.
His friends and loved ones say they already feel his absence.
“It’s sad that he’s not around anymore,” said Tilton.
His innovative spirit, though, will linger on.
“Celebrate his memory by being creative. Being goofy. Pushing the envelope a bit, you know,” said Bredon with a smile.
