Minnesota State Patrol advises drivers to drive with caution as high winds and low visibility continue

MINNESOTA (KVRR) — Driving may have been difficult, but while the snow has let up, Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow says this isn’t nearly the end of what’s to come.

“When the sun starts getting out, it almost creates a false security, the illusion that hey things are improving out here. But on the grand scheme of things, when you get on the flat open areas like much of our region is it can become very problematic. So take note of those no travel advisories, again I would know before I go, and don’t outdrive your common sense,” said Grabow.

Grabow posted on social media that some areas were experiencing extremely low visibility and high winds.

“Right on the outskirts of Moorhead, Highway 10, 336, were some of our most problematic areas where a number of folks found themselves driving off the road into ditches, because of poor visibility. Some spots on I-94 down near Roseau, there. Had a number of semis that went off-road. Same thing, just some white off conditions almost seemed like squalls at the time and making things very difficult,” said Grabow.

While conditions are set to change throughout the day and move through the region, Sgt. Grabow wants to make sure that drivers are prepared.

“There can be times where you’re driving along with normal highway speeds, and it changes just on a dime. I mean, it’s that quick that it can happen. So just understand that in some of these areas it can change very fast out here,” said Grabow.
