ST. PAUL (KVRR/FOX9) — A resolution intended to launch an impeachment investigation into Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison has failed to move forward in a House committee.

The resolution would have allowed for the committee to hold hearings, receive testimony, perform subpoenas, and use other powers as part of the investigation.

The vote failed on a split 8-8 vote.

In March, Republicans introduced two House resolutions for the men’s impeachment for alleged “corrupt conduct”.

Republicans say they plan to move forward with the impeachment resolutions.

“Not enforcing the law which is the role of the Executive Branch. $9 billion of fraud in Medicaid only. Over $300 million in Feeding Our Future,” said Republican Rep. Isaac Schultz of Elmdale Township.

“Lets help make lives more affordable lets actually get stuff done instead of just catering to a narrow band of folks and a narrow band of legislators who seem to have Walz derangement syndrome,” said Democrat Rep. Michael Howard of Richfield.

Given the makeup of the legislature, impeachment of either official is extremely unlikely.

Republicans would need to earn a majority vote in the House.

They would need a supermajority vote in the Senate, which is control by Democrats.
