BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Rep. Liz Conmy will remain on the primary ballot in June and the District 11 Dem-NPL cannot place a new candidate on the ballot.

That’s according to North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe.

He says the removal of a candidate’s name after the withdrawal period passes is not allowable under statute.

The ballot withdrawal date was April 8.

A candidate may mount a certified write-in campaign and submit proper paperwork to the Secretary of State’s office by 4 p.m. on May 19.

If there are no certified write-in candidates for the District 11 Dem-NPL nomination, then Anastassiya Andrianova will advance to the General Election as one nominee, but Conmy would not.

Andrianova is running as a Democrat for the seat being vacated by Rep. Gretchen Dobervich.

Cass County has mailed out military and overseas ballots and have the ballots printed and ready to mail out this week for absentee voting.

Candidates seeking to run as an independent have until Aug 31 at 4 p.m. to submit 300 signatures of qualified electors from District 11, an affidavit of candidacy, and statement of interest to the Secretary of State’s office to be placed on the November 3 General Election ballot.

Conmy died over the weekend in a small plane crash in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota along with the pilot.

The Fargo Democrat was first elected to the House in 2022 and was running for re-election.
