Edgeley, ND business owner accused of assaulting and firing shots at man in late March

EDGELEY, N.D. (KVRR) — An Edgeley, North Dakota business owner is charged with multiple counts, including attempted murder, after firing shots at a man.

Court documents show the incident involving Kelly Steffes happened in late March at Steffes Excavation and Trucking.

The victim had stopped to drop off the rest of his ex-girlfriend’s belongings when he says Steffes fired a shot in the air and hit him in the face with the barrel of the gun.

Steffes then chased him in his vehicle and fired four to nine shots at the victim’s vehicle with a passenger inside, with one round hitting the back window and a bullet fragment in the exhaust.

During a search of his business, officers found cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

In addition to attempted murder and drug charges, Steffes faces three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of assault.

Not guilty pleas have been entered to four misdemeanor drug counts and one infraction.

In addition to LaMoure County Sheriff’s Office the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force and North Dakota BCI were also involved in the investigation.

His next court date is set for June 4.
