Red River Children’s Advocacy hosts 19th annual conference with former detective as keynote

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Red River Children’s Advocacy Center hosts its 19th annual spring conference in Fargo with a special guest speaker.
This year’s event focused on working with kids, law enforcement, and investigations.
The keynote speaker, Michael Johnson, was a former detective based in Texas.
He now works as a consultant preventing child abuse and exploitation.
Johnson shared the common things law enforcement sees in cases involving kids.
“Even having seen and dealing with those different types of cases that you’re talking about, we still know that we need to intervene. We need to make sure that child is safe, get some therapy and support. But we also have a very strong desire to hold that perpetrator accountable for what has taken place,” said Mike Johnson, Retired Police Detective.
Last year, Red River Children’s Advocacy Center did around 500 forensic interviews.
