ST. PAUL (KVRR) — There are some big moves underway for the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Gov. Tim Walz has appointed Justice Theodora Gaïtas to Serve as Chief Justice when Natalie Hudson retires in September.
Gaitas previously served as a judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals and as a judge in the Fourth Judicial District.
Three current members of the Supreme Court were interviewed for the chief justice vacancy.
“Thank you Gov. Walz. Thanks for your trust in me, and thank you for your support of a strong and indepent judiciary in Minnesota,” said Gaitas.
To fill Gaitas’ spot on the bench, Walz has appointed Judge Reynaldo Aligada Jr. to serve as associate justice.
Aligada currently serves as a district court judge in Ramsey County.
