United Way of Cass-Clay Mobilizes Community for Day of Action

The focus of the entire day is getting as many volunteers working on beneficial, hands-on projects as possible.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The “action” in the United Way Day of Action is pretty self-explanatory.

“It’s about connecting nonprofits, our neighbors, businesses, and volunteers,” said Eric Piela, Senior Director of Marketing for United Way of Cass-Clay. “[We want] to take all the compassion that’s in this community and transform it into meaningful action through hands-on projects.”

The United Way of Cass-Clay says this concept has exploded in popularity during its relatively short lifespan.

“We realized this program in 2023, and today we’ll have over 500+ volunteers,” said Piela. “We’re helping 28 nonprofits across 47 projects.”

Some of those include getting your hands dirty – like volunteers did outside The Jeremiah Program in Fargo, planting fresh annual flowers and cleaning up Fall debris.

The Jeremiah Program seeks to provide support for single mothers and their children, meaning a little bit of beautification goes a long way – and they’re thrilled to be one of the many United Way partner organizations benefitting from an ongoing relationship.

“It really just makes a huge difference,” said Andrea Williams, Director of Development for the Jeremiah Program in Fargo. “When everyone gives just a little bit, it helps all of us to grow.”

United Way agrees – saying that this group effort shows how dedicated the people of Fargo-Moorhead are to supporting their own.

Some volunteers stayed at United Way of Cass-Clay HQ after the initial gathering to write cards of encouragement for local schoolchildren.

Those will be included in the backpacks United Way hands out as part of their annual school supply drive.
