Cheaper Transportation For Fargo

If you decide to take a Taxi, it can cost you a good chunk of change.

The car–sharing company called Uber may be making its way to Fargo, and could make rides much cheaper.

You can hitch a ride on Uber by simply requesting a driver through a phone app.

It’ll cost you $4.50 plus $1.60 per mile if you decide to take a Fargo Taxi.

Car Sharing company, Uber, can be half the price of those Fargo taxis.Students are all about this idea.

NDSU Student Adam Berglund said, “If they come in they could make competitive rates and make it more so people can get a cab quicker and it’s easier payment form.”

But is it safe? Commissioners are making sure each of these drivers has prior background checks.

City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn said, ”Lets say you’re out late at night and you’re single person, you’re kind of putting your hands in the trust of that driver so we have to be able to know that that’s going to be a safe situation.”

Newly proposed cab regulations would make Uber charge the same price through the day, unlike now as they base their fares depending on the amount of demand at the time.

“For a football game if your gonna have 500 at the dome that want to get out of there then they charge more money. To me I don’t have a problem with that,” said Piepkorn.

If the new cab regulations are implemented to Uber, they may not come.
Fargo’s legal staff will draft a new set of regulations separate from traditional taxi companies, so Uber can have a chance.

With more opportunity for ride services, it could help get drunk drivers off the roads.

“If you’re downtown after games and stuff I think people need to get home safe and the taxi cab service will help a lot with that,” said Berglund.

Uber hasn’t said it’s coming to Fargo, but is considering to add it to its list of 200 cities across the world that it does serve.

Commissioner Piepkorn says these new regulations should be made by this time next month. He also says traditional cab companies will have to step up their game if Uber does come to town.
