HS BBB: New Look Roughriders Eye Same Success
GRAND FORKS RED RIVER RETURNS JUST ONE SENIOR THIS SEASON.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR)–The Red River Roughriders boys basketball team looks to compete in the EDC this season and build upon their success from a season ago.
The Roughriders were the Class A runner-ups a season ago, falling to Fargo North in the title game. Red River loses key contributors like Zach Kraft who was a top-5 scorer in the EDC a season ago. The lone returning starter for the squad is Pearce Parks who averaged 15 points-per-game last season.
Head coach Kirby Krefting is confident in his returning group.
“We have one starter back,” said Krefting. “We have a couple of returners that were on the court, and then the rest of the guys were along for the ride. Those are the guys that have put in that work [in the off season]. They are ready to prove it. They’re ready to prove to themselves that they belong in this program, and I’m excited to see what they can do and what we can bring to the table.”
Red River is going to take the season game-by-game like any team would. But one game on the schedule pops out in particular for this group: December 19 At Fargo North.
“The coaching staff as well as the players want to get back to North,” said Krefting. “We know North is going to be one of the contenders, so if we can get in there and see what we can do against North, we’re playing with house money, basically.
Returning Junior guard Pierce Parks shares that same sentiment.
“Definitely, I think everyone on this team wants to get back at North,” said Parks. “December 19 is definitely a day we are looking forward to.”
