Fargo’s Police Advisory & Oversight Board Hears About 2023 Arrests and Use of Force by Police

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo’s Police Advisory & Oversight Board is hearing about this year’s stats when it comes to arrests and the use of force by officers.
Fargo officers have responded to 90,189 calls for service, with 5,888 calls resulting in arrests.
Of those, use of force was used in 152 calls and around 2.5% of arrests involved an officer’s use of force.
Police say in 60% of those cases, the person was either under drugs or alcohol or had some type of mental health crisis.
One member of the board asked for a breakdown of where the use of force is happening most often.
“Are we using a lot of force on Broadway? And if so why? You know obviously there are a lot of bars there, you know what I’m saying is I would be very interested to see where the use of force is happening,” said board member Todd Spellerberg.
Four people filed use of force complaints with the police department this year.
