Delegation Urges District-Wide Mail Audit by U.S. Postal Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR) — A number of people across the region are dealing with mail and newspaper delays and broken and unavailable cluster box units.
North Dakota’s congressional delegation is urging the U.S. Postal Service to expand its ongoing postal audits to include the entire North Dakota and Minnesota district.
They are already looking into issues at Bismarck, Mandan and Minot post offices.
There are also still concerns regarding a proposal to relocate some mail processing in the Bismarck and Grand Forks regions.
In a letter to the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General, the delegation said delivery standards must not only be maintained but improved, especially in rural areas.
“So we are pressing on the Inspector General’s office to expand their review of operations in North Dakota so that we have good service, dependable service across the entire state,” said Sen. John Hoeven.
The delegation recognizes that the postal service has had difficulty filling open mail carrier positions, but they say solutions to overcome these challenges must be found.
So far this year, first-class mail on time delivery is down about 3% to just under 83% on time.
