Legislative Session Begins Monday in St. Paul, Medical Debt To Be Considered

ST. PAUL (KVRR/KFGO) — The new legislative session begins Monday in St. Paul and Minnesotans could see some relief from their medical debt thanks to a new bill being considered.

The Minnesota Debt Fairness bill would ban the withholding of medical services due to unpaid debt, and stop medical debt from being reported to credit bureaus.

Attorney General Keith Ellison, who co-developed the bill, says “We should all agree that debt-collection systems that make it harder for people to pay back what they owe does nobody any good.”

Ellison said every Minnesotan should have access to the care they need without worrying about going bankrupt.
