DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KVRR) — A troll invasion is about to take place in our region.

Detroit Lakes will play host to international recycling artist Thomas Dambo and his crew for up to six weeks in May and June.

Dambo is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“It’s the big project that I’m doing in ’24 and it is in Detroit Lakes in Minnesota in the United States. As always I stopped with going to the local landfill. ‘I would like to talk to all the people who knows about the trash and how it works, the different spot because I think if I show those videos to different people around the world they’re going to all learn how to recycle,'” said Dambo.

His “trash to treasure” crew and local volunteers will build six giant sculptures along with three oversized art surprises between Fargo and Perham.

The build will take place starting the first week in May with an estimated completion date of mid-June.

It’s part of Project 412, created to make Detroit Lakes and the surrounding 412 lakes area an even better community.
