DULUTH, Minn. (KVRR/KQDS) — The Cheerio Challenge is underway in Duluth after billionaire Kathy Cargill told the Wall Street Journal that Mayor Roger Reinert “peed in his cheerios” after sending her a letter asking what she has planned for 20 properties she purchased on Park Point.

The mayor posted a picture on social media of a pancake and a piece of bacon with the caption, “For the record … I’m more of a pancake guy.”

People are being encouraged to donate as many boxes of Cheerios or other healthy cereals through Friday.

The cereal will be donated to Duluth food shelves.

Cargill had planned to build homes for family, install a coffee shop on the point along with pickleball facilities.

She told the Wall Street Journal that because of Mayor Reinert and the community’s demands to know what she plans to do with the land, she is “not going to do anything to benefit that community.”

Cargill said, “The good plans that I have down there for beautifying, updating and fixing up Park Point or putting up that sports court, forget it. There’s another community out there with more welcoming people than that small-minded community.”

Cargill is the wife of James Cargill II, part owners of Cargill, the largest agricultural company in the world and headquartered in Minnesota.
