LIVE: Free Comic Book Day

It's not just the cost of the comic book you might wind up saving on.

FARGO — You might think comic books are a waste of your kids’ time.

But it turns out there’s a lot of evidence indicating they’re a great way to get kids excited about reading.

Some studies show comic books can make the world of reading feel more accessible to a child who’s not comfortable with it yet.

Getting contextual information from the images can help them learn observation and inference skills, and help them connect with abstract concepts.

And comic books now aren’t like they were when today’s parents were growing up.

They’re not just about superheroes.

They cover history, science, math, and even great literature.

College financial planning adviser Ryan Keel stopped by the Morning Show to talk about why comic books can be a “gateway drug” to a lifelong love of reading, and why that can ultimately save you on the cost of college in the long run.
