Pests arrive earlier than expected in the FM metro

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – No one likes to deal with the creepy crawlies that can get into our homes and gardens during the summer months. And this year, those bugs have shown up earlier than expected as pest control experts have been getting numerous calls about this issue.

“So yeah it’s been a weird spring so far.” said Nick Stokke, the owner of Prairie Pest Control.

According to pest control experts, the mild winter gave these pests better conditions to survive the winter months.

“We’ve been aggressive I guess in what we are doing with treatment. We are treating customers earlier than expected and letting them know why.” said Stokke.

This includes Asian beetles. But even some that are never seen in April, which are hornets and wasps. So it was a surprise to some to see these pests so early into the year.

“The big one’s been hornets and wasps and bees. We are getting a lot of reports. Normally those nests die off in that first or second hard freeze of the year. The queen is the only one who hibernates, but what we’re finding is some of the nests actually, more survived.” said Stokke.

It is recommended that you call an expert to deal with a pest issue because handling chemicals can be dangerous.
