Sheriff: Pregnant cow intentionally hit, teen driver and passenger facing charges

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KVRR-KWAT) – Investigators say a pregnant cow had to be euthanized after the driver of a vehicle intentionally swerved to hit a cow that was attempting to cross a road in South Dakota.

Codington County Chief Deputy Brent Solum says two teenage boys were in the vehicle. He says the incident was captured on a video that was shared on social media.

Solum says there was plenty of time for the driver to avoid hitting the cow, but one of the boys can be heard saying “hit it, hit it, hit it.” He says the teens were laughing after the cow was hit.

The juveniles are from Watertown and Henry, South Dakota.

Solum says the driver will be charged with felony cruelty to animals and the passenger faces aiding and abetting charges.
