CASSELTON — An Omaha, Nebraska man is hospitalized after North Dakota State troopers say he was hit when he tried to cross the train tracks just west of Casselton ahead of an oncoming BNSF train.

NDHP says the 43-year-old was driving a 2021 Toyota Tacoma southbound on 154th Ave around 7 a.m. Wednesday at the same time the train was headed westbound on the rail line.

The driver failed to yield, and tried to cross the tracks.

The train hit the front of the Toyota, which spun out, hit a crossbucks sign and came to rest.

The driver, who was seriously injured, is at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Troopers plan to release his name sometime later.

He’s facing charges of distracted driving, DUI, open container of an alcoholic beverage, and unlawful possession of THC.
