Governor Burgum Unveils “Vision Zero” Traffic Safety Intiative
The campaign's slogan is "Zero Fatalities. Zero Excuses.''

NORTH DAKOTA — Gov. Doug Burgum has unveiled the “Vision Zero” traffic safety initiative aimed at preventing deaths on North Dakota roads.
The campaign’s slogan is “Zero Fatalities. Zero Excuses.”
Burgum says the state Highway Patrol and health and transportation agencies will help educate the public and look at new laws to improve traffic safety.
Officials say more than 90 percent of traffic fatalities are preventable.
The biggest factors are drunken driving, not wearing a seat belt and speeding.
There were 113 traffic fatalities in North Dakota last year, the same as in 2016.
