Shifting ground, structural issues force Fargo to close fire station until next year

FARGO (KVRR) – Structural issues have forced the city of Fargo to close one of its seven fire stations until August, 2025.
City officials say Fire Station 5, known as the West Acres Fire Station, needs significant reconstruction and renovation work due to shifting ground beneath the building. The closure is effective immediately.
“After a detailed evaluation with engineering experts, it was determined that the southern portion of the building must be demolished and rebuilt to meet safety standards. In addition to reconstructing this section, contractors will also upgrade the remaining parts of the facility to ensure it is modernized and equipped for the future needs of the department.”
Emergency calls in the Station 5 coverage area will be handled by nearby fire stations and through mutual aid with the West Fargo Fire Department.
The city has allocated $2.5 million for the project.
