North Dakota Governor Candidates Debate With Confidence In Election

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –From taxes, homelessness, abortion, and other issues, Congressman Kelly Armstrong and State Senator Merrill Piepkorn agree on some issues and disagree on others.

When asked about a possible ban on binary triggers both took different stances. Piepkorn said if a bill was introduced, he would sign it. But Armstrong says guns are not the issue.
“So if you want to talk about safety, you want to talk about these things. We should quit gaslighting the North Dakota people and the American people and we should work on issues that you can actually get bipartisan support to pass,” said Kelly Armstrong, U.S. Representative.
One of the topics that the candidates had agreed on is homeless encampments.
“We cannot give up on treatment for those addicts to alcohol and drugs. And we just can’t throw the mentally ill who need help. We just can’t abandon them on the streets,” said Merrill Piepkorn, State Senator.
“We can’t shun that problem away so we have to get really really aggressive. And we have to get creative because we don’t have enough addiction counselors. And one of the things we have to look at is not out here but just a perspective. We have to figure out a way to deploy treatment and those resources quicker,” said Kelly Armstrong, U.S. Representative.
The topic comes up after recent ordinances were passed on homeless encampments in Fargo. It also comes up as Bismarck is currently in talks about how to address their current issue.
Both Armstrong and Piepkorn have high hopes for who will take the seat as the new North Dakota governor this coming election.
