Dear NICU Mama Volunteers Make 5,000 Holiday Cards for NICU Moms
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Volunteers gathered Thursday afternoon to deliver over 5,000 personalized holiday cards to NICU moms currently in Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the nation.
Dear NICU Mama started their non-profit in 2019 with two moms who both experienced having babies end up in the NICU.
Their shared experience brought the idea to put together a support outreach for moms dealing with similar situations.
Every minute, just in the United States, 30 babies are admitted to the NICU and nearly 60% of parents are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“We want to remove any barriers for a NICU mom to receive support. So we have all of our virtual services like our podcast, our online support groups, our in person support groups. And really Dear NICU Mama exists to create a safe and supportive community for NICU moms,” said Ashley Ham, Executive Director of Dear NICU Mama.
Each card will share with moms a helping hand to the organization and a personal note from a volunteer themselves.
