Homeless Memorial Day honors those who lost lives unhoused

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Saturday marked the longest night of the year, and a chance to remember the homeless neighbors in our community who were lost this year.

The F-M Coalition to End Homelessness and First Lutheran Church in Fargo held a ceremony marking the Homeless Memorial Day, walking from Broadway Square to the church were they ate and told stories of those unhoused individuals who lost their lives.

They say that breaking bread with their homeless neighbors is an important way to connect  with them, and learn what kind of help they need.

“I think it provides a sense of community. We see homeless people on the streets that are ostracized essentially. And this is an opportunity for people to sit around together, to take some time to remember those who have passed without families, without shelter.”

They added that events like this can help people get engaged to volunteer for organizations helping the homeless in the community.
