Man charged in fatal hit-and-run says he thought he hit a deer

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — A Fargo man arrested for the hit-and-run death of a woman in Fargo told investigators that he was late for work and thought he had struck a deer.

Alex Cruz, 23, has been charged with a felony for leaving the scene of a crash involving death or injury and misdemeanor driving under suspension.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Robyn Krause, 36, was hit as she was crossing 38th Street and 53rd Avenue near Walmart. She died at Essentia Health.

His Dodge Charger was impounded.

Cruz had been cited for speeding four times this year including one citation for driving 23-miles-an-hour over the limit in West Fargo.

His next court appearance is set for late January.
